Workshop

Head, workshop facility : Mr. Hitesh R Vaghela

In-charge, Thaltej workshop facility : Mr. Nirbhay Kumar Upadhyay

PRL’s mechanical workshop has been serving the mechanical manufacturing requirements of the scientific divisions of PRL. The workshop is engaged in the design optimization, fabrication & testing of various mechanical subsystems of several ongoing development projects in the laboratory.

The PRL workshop has two facilities one at the Navrangpura campus and the other at the Thaltej campus of PRL, Ahmedabad.

Both the facilities are equipped with several state-of-the-art machines for the manufacturing of mechanical components, e.g., Vertical Machining Centre (VMC 850 & VMC 640), Wire Cut Electrical Discharge Machine, Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM), CNC Turning Center (DX 200), Turn Mill Center (nvu 200) etc. In addition to these, the workshop also has a range of conventional machine tools.

The range of product development at the workshop encompasses back-end instruments of telescopes at Mt. Abu observatory, prototyping for a number of scientific payloads for upcoming planetary/space missions, various subsystems/setups for calibration & testing, and instruments for scientific and technical uses at the laboratory. The workshop also supports various operational activities of laboratories and facilities in PRL.
