PRL-Workshop Overview

PRL has well-equipped Mechanical workshops located in different campuses. While the main workshop is housed in the Navrangpura campus, it also has a workspace in the Thaltej campus. These workshops support the ongoing activities of all the scientific divisions, which are engaged in design optimization and fabrication of various mechanical systems and subsystems.

Several state-of-the-art machines are used for manufacturing mechanical parts, viz. Vertical Machining Centre (VMC-850 & VMC-640), Turn Mill Centre (TMC nvu-200), CNC Turning Centre (DX 200), Electric Wire-cut (EDM Wire cut) and Discharge Machines (EDM). Workshops are also equipped with the necessary Software; Solid-Works and Inventor are used in design-related drawings, and Master-Cam & Product Design & Manufacturing Collection (PDMC) are CAM Software and used in CNC programming. This softwares helps in the execution of very complex machining that demands high precision.

So far, PRL workshops have played a major role in the development of instruments deployed for ground-based observations and also diff. parts of satellite payloads. The workshop will have challenging assignments from the upcoming scientific missions as well.
