• Remote Login

    One can login to PRL network over internet using ssh (or slogin) only. If you are using a windows system, you may use PUTTY. For accessing PRL servers over Internet, kindly mail your request to support[At]prl[Dot]res[Dot]in. You will then receive instructions.

  • PRL Virtual Private Network (VPN)

    VPN server is configured to provide secure access of PRL computational facilities over the Internet. The server is configured to allow access to authorized users with user digital certificate and Time based One Time Password (TOTP). To use this facility, users need smart phone to generate TOTP. Using this connectivity, user’s device will be part of PRL Intranet (LAN) over secure tunnel via Internet. User can access PRL subscribed Library Journals, run network licensed software on their machine, can access available PRL Intranet web sites. PRL Computer Centre provides (OpenVPN based) Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. By connecting to PRL VPN you can access Intranet services like network license, browsing subscribed journals etc. from a machine that is in Internet. To enable VPN access for your account, kindly mail your request to support[At]prl[Dot]res[Dot]in. You will then receive your VPN configuration file and instructions.

  • PRL ownCloud - File Sync and Storage Access

    Access and Share your data from anywhere using Laptops,PCs, or Smart-phones. The server is configured using open source tool - ownCloud to allow access to authorized users with Time based One Time Password (TOTP). To avail this facility, user need Smart-phone for generating TOTP. User needs to install ownCloud client applications on Laptops, PCs, or Smart-phones for file sync. To implement this service open source software is used with few in-house customizations similar to other solutions like Dropbox, Google drive, Skydrive, etc. To avail the PRL ownCloud service, user need to fill up a form and submit it to Computer Centre. Computer Centre will then create your account on PRL ownCloud and inform you through mail.

  • PRL Mail

    PRL Primary mail server for PRL is on DMZ and used as a MTA. Mails get delivered on local mail server which is on our private network. Incomming/Out-going mails are scanned by Clamav AntiVirus - GPL anti-virus toolkit for UNIX, SpamAssassin - A server-wide SPAM filter to reduce number of virus/spam mails on users' inbox. Problem related to spam/virus may be reported to spam-help[At]prl[Dot]res[Dot]in. To access your mails you can use mozilla thunderbird, outlook express or any other MUA. One can also use our web based email access facility PRL Webmail for this purpose even over internet. We allow maximum 30 MB of attachment file size from PRL LAN. We allow maximum 5 MB of attachment file size from PRL Webmail. As per Institute policy, we do not allow mails have attachment of files with following extensions: .vbs, .zip, .exe, .lnk, .src, .wsh, .hta, .pif, .cpl.   • PRL LDAP Directory

    LDAP server is configured to provide centralized database of PRL users. Users can use this database for searching information like e-mail address, contact no., scientific division, etc.. Users can also use this database to autocomplete the e-mail address while composing the mail to PRL users.

  • PRL Domain Name System

    Public Domain for PRL is and corresponding DNS Servers are ( and ( - primary and ( and - secondary one.

  • Secure Wireless Network Access

    Wireless network is established to allow access of PRL network and computing facility using Laptops, PC with wireless card, Smart Phones. User need to register the Physical / Hardware/ MAC address of their devices to PRL's in-house developed Wi-Fi registration software. Only authorized/registered devices can get access to PRL wireless network. At present, Main Campus, Thaltej Campus, Student Hostel, PDF Blocks, Transit Accommodation, Seminar/Meeting Rooms, Lecture Halls, Library, Computer Centre and Ramanathan Auditorium are fully WLAN enabled and operational.
