The Dark filament P,Q and R showed considerable activity associated with the 3b flare of 14 May1981.The First frame ,taken on 13 May at 11125 UT is shown here for comparison.The filament P bifurcated at 0345 UT on 14 May and exhibited preflare activity.A similar trend is noticed for Q as well.The filament R, on other hand, seperated out from the main filament and indicated pre-flare activity in velocity and position. It condensed in the form of a long filament at 0711 UT stretching almost parallel to Q. A huge flare ribbon F2 appeared exactly at the location of R at 0904 UT frame along with F1 and F3 on the opposite sides of the filament. The energy stored in R appears to have been released in the form of this flare.
