May 24-29,1980

A group of sunspots, designated as Hale No. 16863--64, was observed during May 24-29,1980. Spot P exhibited faint umbral brightenings on May 24 and 25 ,but on May 26 it developed into a very intense brightening . This persisted on subsequent days and finally disappeared on May 29. Traces of inflow of material are shown by arrows in some frames . Although on May 29 (0317 UT ) a minor flare was seen near filament F (adjoining the spot P), no umbral flare was observed. It may be noted that in these active regions only the spot-umbra P displayed the umbral flare while the spot-umbra Q did not show any such activity.
