Impulsive Flares

A very large fraction of the total energy of a flare in impulsive phase may be released in times as short as 10 seconds or as long as 10 minutes. However, not all flares show impulsive nature. This phase is, typically, marked by emission of non-thermal hard X-rays and chromospheric emissions which began in intense 'kernels'.The area and the brightness of a flare increase very rapidly during this phase.
