In McMath Region No. 15986 (N 20 W 20), not a single spot was seen on May 9,1979. A remarkable filament, almost circular in shape, however, developed in this region during 8-9 May. a loop shaped brightening was observed at the SW-fringe of this filament, as seen at 0434 UT. Subsenquently, large portions of the filament, to the north, disrupted and flare ribbons appeared around the NW segment (0733 UT). Dark loops joining the ribbons,were also seen. The filament material exhibited intense activity during this period and ultimately, the entire filament vanished leaving its signature in the form of some faint emission patches.
