About Nextcloud
PRL had implemented ownCloud based cloud storage and syncronisation solution. I updated own- Cloud to newer Nextcloud without effecting existing user’s data and files. Nextcloud is more feature rich than ownCloud and it is the most deployed on-premise file sharing, syncing and collaboration client-server based software suite. Nextcloud also provides the facility of VoIP based audio/video calling.
Nextcloud for paperless recruitment activity.
Nextcloud also helped us to go paperless during the recruitment activity of a walk-in procedure. No paper copy of the bio-data of candidates to the committee members was provided. Technically, PRL’s Nextcloud file sharing facility was used to achieve this paperless recruitment activity. An account for recruitment was created on PRL’s Nextcloud server. The Nextcloud client software was installed and configured in two PCs in the recruitment section and all the scanned biodata were saved into the “Nextcloud” folder so that the biodata can be synced directly to Nextcloud server. Then a password protected link to the folder was shared among the committee members using which the committee members could view the biodata of candidates on their laptop/mobile and a computer connected to the projector in the committee room. During our first paperless initiative, Bio-data of about 200 candidates was shown online through PC projection/laptop and even on mobile for interaction with the candidates. As an initiative and in its maiden the effort saved over 5000 pages of paper (approx. 200 candidates x 4-page biodata on an average of each candidate x 7 members) for a single recruitment activity
Nextcloud’s video calling facility
Earlier, during the Hindi Pakhawada celebration, employees at Mount Abu and Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) were unable to participate (due to at distanced location) in the various programs organized at PRL. Using the audio/video calling facility of Nextcloud, I connected them with the PRL program so that they can participate in the event as employees at PRL.
Nextcloud for presentation upload during conference
I also implemented a system to upload presentations during the conference by the various participant in hassle freeway and live syncing using the Nextcloud system.
