Aditya Solar wind Particle EXperiment (ASPEX)
ASPEX is a selected payload from PRL for the Aditya-L1 Mission. The primary objective of ASPEX is to understand the solar and interplanetary processes (like shock effects, wave-particle interactions, etc.) in the acceleration and energisation of the solar wind particles from the L1 point. To achieve these objectives, ASPEX measures low as well as high energy particles that are associated with slow and fast components of solar wind, suprathermal population, shocks associated with CME and CIR, and solar energetic particles (SEPs). This instrument has two parts namely, Solar Wind Ion Spectrometer (SWIS) which measures the Ions in the energy range of 100 eV to 20 keV and Supra Thermal Energetic Particle Spectrometer (STEPS) which measures high energy particles in the energy range of 20 keV to 20 MeV. SWIS uses MCP detectors for solar wind ion measurement and STEPS uses custom designed Si PIN and Scintillators for high-energy particle detection. The Flight Model packages have been delivered in May 2022.
