November 9,1979

Hale No. 16418 produced a classic example of homologous flares on 9 November 1979 giving rise to three flaring events within a span of around three hours. The beginning of the first flare of this series was missed. This flare exhibited a 'coiled' structure as seen in the frames at 0315 UT and 0317 UT. The same region flared up again at around 0545 UT which gradually decayed. A very intense flare then ensued at 0603 UT. A well developed flare loop was also seen joining the two ribbons of the flare.
