Wave packet is fundamental to quantum mechanics. We probe the evolution of molecular wave packet using ultrafast laser. In molecules, the electron dynamics is in attosecond time range and nuclear dynamics ranges from picosecond to femtosecond. We probe and control these dynamics at their natural time scales. By chasing the electron and nuclear dynamics using femtosecond/attosecond pulses, it is possible to control the photochemical reaction. This phenomenon is known as quantum control of molecular dynamics. At PRL, we have developed femtosecond laser lab which is unique as all sensitive equipment are on “anti-vibration floor isolation” and whole lab is cleanroom (ISO 7 grade) with temperature and humidity-controlled environment. We have developed the Reaction microscope/COLTRIMS, Velocity Map Imaging Spectrometer and High Harmonic Generation setup. The attosecond XUV beam line is under development. We have developed pump-probe setups. This lab is equipped with SPIDER and Near-IR Grenouille for femtosecond pulse characterization and CEP stabilized terra watt (TW) femtosecond laser.
