Shashikiran Ganesh's collection of links to Scientific Instruments
Here are links to astronomical instruments I have worked with
- PRL Optical Polarimeter
We are presently upgrading the hardware/software with a newer acquisition system
- PRL NICMOS Camera recovered from the Wayback machine here
- PRL's CCD cameras - developed in house as well as obtained 'off-the-shelf'
- SBIG's ST4 and STV autoguider cameras at Mt Abu Observatory of PRL
I have written a Linux version of the STV remote control software
- SIRIUS Camera on the IRSF telescope at SAAO, Sutherland
In addition I have been involved in work with data from the following instruments/telescopes
- ISOCAM on board the Infrared Space Observatory
- CAIN Camera on the TCS (IAC) for near-infrared followup imaging of the ISOGAL program
- ESO SOFI for a spectroscopic program
- ESO DFOSC for a spectroscopic program
- IRAM 30m (during a summer school at Granada)
Some electronics and linux software that I have designed and built/written:
- A bipolar stepper driver using a 74ls194 and an L293D
- A screencapture program in C (tested on linux) to save a 'hardcopy'
from a Tektronix THS7xxA series oscilloscope.
A separate page on the testing and use of this software with a Tek THS710A will be up some time soon.
Pre professional years saw the following instruments being made and used 'at home'
- An 8'' Newtonian telescope on a Dobsonian mount (link to my geocities page for the project report
- An optical microscope with about 250X magnification
- An optical micrograph for taking photos at about 300x magnification on large format film
